Nejmodernější konstrukce optiky zahrnuje vysoce přesné asférické (Advanced Aspherical) a ED (Extra-low Dispersion) členy, které redukují sférickou a chromatickou aberaci, stejně jako vrstvu ZEISS ® T* Coating, která minimalizuje záblesky v objektivu (flare), závoje (ghosting) a zaručuje tak čistotu a ostrost snímků, kterou je značka ZEISS ® tak známá. AF je vybaven motorem SSM, který zajišťuje rychlé a přesné a tiché ostření, což oceníte zvláště při natáčení videa. Objektiv je také vybaven kruhovým voličem pro změnu clonového čísla s možností tzv. clickless chodu pro plynulou změnu clonového čísla při nahrávání videa, přepínač AF/MF režimů, a to vše v designu odolném proti prachu a vlhkosti.
